Welcome, everyone! Here’s the program for the 8th Global Investigative Journalism Conference, (#GIJC13), scheduled for October 12-15, 2013, in beautiful Rio de Janeiro. It’s the first time we’re holding the GIJC in the global south, and we’re combining it with two other key events in journalism: the annual Latin America Investigative Journalism Conference (COLPIN), and the International Congress of ABRAJI, Brazil’s investigative journalism association. Panels and workshops will be available in languages as marked: English (Eng), Portuguese (Port), Spanish (Span). Plenary and showcase panels will be translated into all three. There will be streaming video available for all plenary and showcase panels and all those held in the RDC auditorium (C1). We look forward to seeing you in Rio!

John Bones er daglig leder i SKUP og har tidligere jobbet i VG.. Bones har mange års erfaring med datastøttet journalistikk og har ledet SKUPs studieturer til NICAR-konferansene de siste tre årene. John hadde også ansvaret for dataseminarene under GIJC på Lillehammer i 2015. Han har flere ganger undervist i databaserte teknikker på SKUP, ved Global Investigative Journalism Conference og ved nasjonale konferanser i USA, Nederland, Danmark, Nepal og Latvia. Han var bidragsyter til «The Data Journalism Handbook», og i VG har han tidligere vært vaktsjef, avdelingsleder og prosjektleder.--- John Bones is a Managing Director at SKUP, the Norwegian Foundation for Investigative Reporting.  For many years, Bones was the datajournalism specialist at VG, the most read daily newspaper in Norway, and previously was editor and politics editor. Started his career at Adresseavisen in 1979, where was a reporter and assistant editorial manager. Has education in history, statistics, nordic languages and french, and realized trainings at SKUP Conference in Norway, at  Fagfestival and FUJ Conference in Denmark, at VVOJ Conference in Belgium and at NICAR and GIJ Conferences.
