Stephan Hofstatter
Sunday Times Investigative journalist
Johannesburg, South Africa
Stephan Hofstatter is a member of the investigations team at the Sunday Times newspaper in South Africa. His recent investigations into government corruption and police hit squads, conducted with two colleagues, led directly to South Africa’s police chief and several cabinet ministers being fired, and dozens of senior police officials being tried for murder. This year his investigations into South Africans involved in resource or arms deals in Africa that are fuelling conflict on the continent took him to the Central African Republic and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Awards include winning South Africa's premier investigative journalism prize, the Taco Kuiper, twice in a row and being named South African journalist of year three times in the last four years.
